NEW EDEN Guitarist Says 'Obscure Master Plan' Re-Release Is 'Not Sanctioned' By Band
June 23, 2008Guitarist Horacio Colmenares of the California power metallers NEW EDEN has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
"The re-release of [NEW EDEN's second album, 1998's] 'Obscure Master Plan' through [Poland's] Metal Mind Productions is NOT sanctioned by the band. It is a release by the labels involved and in my opinion, it is only for the purpose of exploitation and the hope of a little $$. I was not informed about this release by any record label. I found out about it just like the rest of you; through BLABBERMOUTH.NET. I, Horacio, the founder of the band, would NOT buy this re-release because it does NOT contain any new music. I engineered and mixed all the masters for 'Obscure Master Plan' and personally had the original mixes mastered onto a 16-bit CD master. In my opinion, no matter how much you process a 16-bit master through '24-bit technology,' you still have 16-bit quality. It is NOT a CD from a 24-bit master, thus it can never yield true 24-bit quality.
"I am in the process of re-releasing 'Obscure Master Plan'. Once the deal is finalized, all the information will be on www.NewEden.net, the band's official site. The re-release will be a double CD and will include: new photos, new graphics, the original release AND a completely newly re-mixed, not just re-mastered CD of all 10 songs. The second disc will also contain two demo versions of the songs 'Land Of Filth & Money' and 'The Promise' featuring NEW EDEN's previous singer Victor Vaca. The two demo songs are completely different recordings and are true 'must-haves' for any true NEW EDEN fan.'
Metal Mind Productions will reissue "Obscure Master Plan" on June 23 in Europe and August 5 in the USA (via MVD). The digipack title is limited to 2,000 copies and will be made available on golden disc.
According to a press release, "Obscure Master Plan" "shows exactly how a modern power album should sound! The album, first released in 1999, is a power metal masterpiece, capturing the sheer essence of the genre and improving it with the addition of speed and progressive metal elements. The ten tracks included on 'Obscure Master Plan' range from heavy metal anthems to thrashing monstrosities and progressive elegies. NEW EDEN managed to capture the retro sound of '80s heavy metal and confront it with a truly modern approach, backed with some amazing guitar riffs and impressive vocal lines. Easily comparable to classic releases by ICED EARTH, SYMPHONY X or SANCTUARY, 'Obscure Master Plan' is definitely one of the best U.S. power metal albums of the '90s."
